The Provo Water Resources Laboratory is a Utah State Health Department certified and National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program certified analytical laboratory. The laboratory staff consists of the chemist/lab manager, the lab technician, and a part time intern. The staff provides water quality test results for several city divisions including the waste water treatment plant, water sources, water distribution, and engineering. Additionally, the laboratory performs environmental testing for receiving streams and soil testing for land application of biosolids.
The majority of the waste water tests are for process control and for permit compliance. The laboratory analyses that are for permit compliance are certified parameters: pH, Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), Dissolved Oxygen (DO), Total Suspended Solids (TSS), Ammonia-Nitrogen (NH3-N), Total Chlorine (CL2), and Coliform Bacteria. Additional testing performed for background information or research includes Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), turbidity,
